Honeywell powers environmentally-preferable and pesticide-free insect freezer
SHANGHAI, August 22, 2018 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that Honeywell Solstice® Propellant has been selected by Earth Chemical, the biggest insect freezer producer in Japan, to produce insect freezer product for China. Made with a propellant that is safe for the home and environmentally preferable, it is the first offering of its kind available to Chinese consumers.
Compared with traditional insect freezers that use liquefied petroleum gas or dimethyl ether, Honeywell Solstice Propellant (HFO-1234ze(E)) enables the non-flammable and environmentally-preferable features for this insect freezer. Based on fourth-generation hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) technology developed by Honeywell, Solstice Propellant is non-ozone-depleting with an ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) of less than 1. The insect-freezing product is also pesticide-free and safe to use around pets and children, with no chemical residues.
“Our corporate philosophy is, ‘We act to live in harmony with the Earth,’ and we are committed to growing together with society by providing products and services that people around the world truly need,” said Noso Tomokazu, Managing Director of Earth Chemical (Shanghai) Management Co., Ltd. “The unique performance, environmental benefits and reliable safety of our HFO-based products, powered by Honeywell, enable us to deliver a satisfying experience for Chinese families.”
Eric Yang, general manager of Honeywell Fluorine Products, Asia Pacific, added: “The collaboration with Earth Chemical opens a new market for us in China, and we look forward to partnering on more items that help bring our environmentally-preferable and safe technologies to consumers in China.”
Honeywell Solstice Propellant has been widely used in various aerosol applications, including personal care products, pressure dusters, lubricants and cleaners, and freezer sprays. Honeywell’s family of Solstice-branded products includes stationary, commercial refrigeration and mobile refrigerants; liquid and gaseous blowing agents; solvents; and propellants—all based on Honeywell’s HFO technology that helps customers lower their carbon footprint without sacrificing end-product performance.
Founded in 1892, Earth Chemical is a Japanese company specializing in producing and selling insecticides and household sanitary cleaning products. Its subsidiary in China, Earth Chemical (Shanghai) Management Co., Ltd., is mainly responsible for product development and sale. The innovative insect freezer is now sold under the ARS brand at its Tmall and JD flagship ecommerce shop.
